How to become emo
if you want to become emo you are that the right place,first thing first you have to know what emo means short for "emotional .What is emo? Well most people would consider it punk with emotion is what we would call the classification of a new rising way of feeling your inner self.
step one/emo hairstyle/haircut:Dark hair with light or colorful streaks is the substandard for emo hairstyles. Some prefer to have long bangs that cover one eye or one side of the face. For boys, short and choppy is the ultimate emo hair. For girls, longer hair with lots of layers and razor-cut bangs is important. It is very common for emo girls to have blonde chunks in their hair. Bright-colored chunks such as lime green or pink are becoming increasingly popular. Even if you cut the rest of your hair short, keep the bangs longs.
step two/now for the makeup: Both emo men and women wear mascara, black eyeliner.
STEP 3 emo clothes: boys and girls wear black skinny jean also wear tight band t-shirts. A good rule of thumb when picking out the size of the shirt is to go one size smaller than what you normally wear. Studded belt or wear belt with your skinny jeans. These belts come in numerous styles and colors ,have some fun when choosing your studded belt. You can also add a vanity belt buckle if you wish.Wear tight, zip-up hooded sweatshirts in colder weather. The sweatshirt can be either plain in color (such as hot pink) or a hooded sweatshirt from your favorite band. This sweatshirt should still be worn over a band shirt and should be the same size as the band shirt.Also buy a pair of black Converse Chuck Taylor low top shoes. If you want, you can add pink shoe laces to the shoes to add to the emo look. It's important that the shoes are authentic Chuck Taylors and that they are "worn in." To do this, you can either run out into a dirt-filled field or rub some dirt onto the shoes. Music is an major factor if u want to become a emo kids. the music you can listen to is My Chemical Romance and Panic! At the Disco,Fallout Boy,Funeral of a Friend” and “Paramore.

Jeez you guys. Emo is just a term for being emotional. If you wan't to be emotional, go right ahead - but please don't call yourself an emo. I don't see what is the point in being an "emo". We should all love our life, be grateful for all the little things we get to do, not throw it all away by being depressed and destroying your body. Ok, sure you like rock music and such - well, so do I - But being an Emo destroys your confidence , mentally and physically. Our life is valuable and we should have the confidence to say " yeah, wooo I love being me" , Not crying and cutting your self just because of some stereotypical term that degrades people to become suicidal.
People who like the colour black,listen to heavy metal,wear converse and studs and dye their hair black are NOT emo. They are just rocking out their own style.
If you cut yourself, cry all the time, write sad poetry and nearly suicidal then you are STILL NOT EMO. You are just a mentally depressed saddo who needs special help, because you are obviously an idiot. Especially if you call yourself and emo [ which you arent ].

No offense... but this article totally SUCKS. half those people there are SCENE. NOT emo. And those are the really popular emo bands. Which usually aren't as good. I don't really listen to any of those. Most of the emo music i listen to is escape the fate, and black veil brides. And bullet for my valentine. Bullet isn't really emo, but some emo people listen to it.
Here is my view on people "wanting" to become emo...
people don't understand it. They think all the guys are fags, and that they cut themselves, and they hate themselves and the world. That USUALLY isnt it. They are usually just sensitive and quiet.
I'm totally in love with emo music, but I'm not really.. emo myself. I love the style, and i dress like it most of the time, but my attitude isn't anything like an emo person.
I now know what click im in. Im in the EMO click and im lovin every bit of it. People say im crazzy, i take it as a compliment. :)

okay, so I just want to make this clear: Cutting yourself is NOT emo!! And you don't have to be bisexual or depressed to be emo. Emo is a very hard thing to define, because some people mean the music, some the clothes- and hairstyle and some the lifestyle when they say emo. But most "emos" (or scenekids) aren't depressed or anything, they just have an alternative style. So plz don't judge emos. They have different personalities just like "normal" people!

I've been emo for quite awhile. People will judge u harshly. I got kicked out of school for cutting myself and I lost my true love cuz of it and I got kicked out of a foster home. And I almost died several times from it. Being emo does not mean cutting yourself it just means that u r depressed and can't handle the emotional pain of life so u need to punish yourself. But I love being emo and I'm proud of of but I no longer cut but sadly I will always have scars covering my arms and legs. im 13 n im emo. first off people not all emos have to cut themselves n if they do cut themselves i think they need help becuz its not so healithy to lose all that blood n get it all infected n crap.. anyways being emo is not something u have to have instructions for. its just being urself. but here are the basics of being emo: 1) wear lots of dark color, 2)wear tight clothing, 3) get piercings ( optional), 4) have highlights in hair n layered or choppy hair styles.. most people have it teased for girls, 5) listen to metal n punk or watever u like, 6) there are all types of emos in this world and they all like different things so part of being emo besides the style is being urself, and MOST IMPORTANTLY IGNORE ALL THOSE BASTARDS WHO WANNA MAKE YOIUR LIFE HELL.
trust me its not worth it. at my school since i have black hair n i got a huge chunk or electric orange put in it most people think its really cool other people tell me that im a freak n watever but hey i dont care i mean its what i want that matrters the most!! VALUE UR OWN OPINION ppl!

My biggest problem with this, is my parents both hate it when i try wearing black, and don't agree with the fact that i'm trying to go emo. My sisters to dumb to remember the deal she made with me 2 years ago, so i can't get my lip piercings, other then that ive gotten every other thing down to the knot and rope that will kill me in 4 years.

I have cut myself for years now but only recently did I find out about emo. I always wear black and am quite depressed even if I do say so myself. I'm turning 12 tomorrow but I wish I was never born. The other day I made a pretty deep cut on the back of my hand. I stuck a staple through it as a joke and showed this guy. he almost threw up cause it was bleeding everywhere. hello uhm I know there's 100 of 100 of people who has said this but I wanted to be emo since I was 8 (i'm 12)...I dont like when people stare at me and judge me ;/ last year I putted my self together and asked my dad about the subject and then I found out that he was a ''new waver'' (I think its called that) at that is the first emoish style (he actually whear it before it where invented) and then he showed me an emo/goth/etc. store! I brought a lot of awesome stuff but when I wear it in the shcool they stare and keep asking me why I was wearing that... I humble all the emo's out there!! help me? whaat should I do? just wear it with pride? ;}

I'm sorry , but this is not how to be emo, ts how to be a poser. Emo about listening to your motions and wearing what you like to stand out. If you really want to be emo, you have to Change the way you think. Also, none of those bands are really emo bands. No emo bands are mainstream, so they are harder to find. But if you want to be emo, know what your doing! Or else you'll quickly be pronounced a poser, which you definitely don't want. Just be who you are.

hey everyone. i'm an emo, i'm 14 and i would like to give some advice to any other young people who are considering becoming emo, or having trouble.
first thing i would like to say is, if you are worried about people judging you, then you shouldn't. if they're family, you know they're going to love you regardless of what you look like. i would advise young emos to remember not to become shallow, and totally depressed around your parents. i've been through all of that, and i think that its important that you show some emotion and consideration when around your parents. in general most parents are against their kids being depressed, but remember that you've chosen to be emo, and it's a way of EXPRESSING yourself.
Secondly: if you have become emo over a short period of time eg: over a 2 week holiday, be ready to be judged. it will be a shock to everyone, and not everyone will agree with your choices. if anyone asks if you are an emo. you do not say you are. you will come off as a poser.
appearance: ok, with the emo appearance. well as the article said above, you really should stick to the basics. add some colour when ever you can to your outfits though. perhaps add some coloured laces to your shoes. or some bright jewellery. or my favourite, and badges, and bag. a true emo usually has a messenger bag decorated and personalised with badges etc... i hope this will help any emo's that might need some tips.Remember, not to take the emo thing to seriously though.... there is nothing wrong with showing little emotion, but if you ever feel a need or want to cut yourself, i would strongly advise you to talk to someone for help. because it is a common misconception that emos regularly cut themselves. it is a personal choice. but please do not feel obligated to do so because that is what you have heard about the emo culture.

I'm not going to claim myself as being ''emo'' since I am only 13, and don't have any big issues in my life right now.
At the moment, my life is just extremely confusing, I have just started high school, am not very popular and half the time have no idea what I am doing (:
I have a lot of friends, it's just that they always seem to ditch me at the last minute, and it pisses me off because I don't know what I am doing wrong.
I want to change schools to go where my ex goes, because we still love each other and the only reason we broke up was because we hardly get to see each other (we go to different schools).

I am going to admit, as miserable as I sound, I am actually a very fun, happy person!!
I love rock, punk and heavy metal music, I write lyrics and poetry, and play guitar and drums.

I am not religious at ALL, in case you were wondering.

Okay guys, being emo doesn't mean cutting yourself, crying yourself to sleep, and hating life. If you go around saying your emo or you cut or hate life then you're known as a poser. Beside people that look like emos to you are just being themselves. Some people just like the style. Here are the things that I do. I cut my hair to where they're put into long side swept bangs. I do wear dark skinny jeans, over sized hoodies and converse. I wear eyeliner just around the edge of my eyes, dark eyeshadow on my eyelids, and white eye shadow under my eyebrow. That could be used for people that aren't allowed to dye their hair or stuff like that.
Btw guys, don't cut yourself. You're not doing Anything good just hurting yourself. It's pathetic and that also makes you known as a poser. Sorry guys but it's not healthy. Okay, Its great if you wanna dress funky and rock your own style, but DONT hurt yourself. That not emo. Thats insanity. If you hurt yourself, you give emo people a bad name. Cutting is not a part of being emo. Its a part of being mental. GET HELP. And I'm not some random adult trying to preach safety crap. I'm a 17 year old girl, and a former cutter. So don't just be all "She doesnt understand the pain I'm going through" because I do. My parents got divorced when I was 12, my mom got re-married to an abusive husband, and my dad works so hard he get about 2 hours of sleep every night, i think he's gonna just have a heart attack from overworking. Emo is not about cutting yourself or just the clothes you wear, it is about how you act. most emo's would have a passion for poetry or something, in this case, mine is fine art and poetry. Emo is about expressing you inner feelings and not caring about what other people think, and you have good (not great) but good grades like B or C. So if you cut yourself, look in a mirror and ask yourself " Is this who i really want to be??" Emo is fun to be, but it is not for all people. And Emo is short for EMOtionall, NOT cut yourself every time your mad or sad!!!!

Can some one explain this to me!? Let me just tell you something that i have picked up while reading through these comments, the, "I am emo but wanna be more emo"...now, WHAT THE HELL IS THAT!!!??? How can you want to be more emo!? I understand that alot of you "emo" people dont wanna here this but im gonna say it. You dont have to be what other people want you to be. And see know I know what your thinking, "im not doing this for another person but for me". And is so tben listin to this. thats wat i do and its also the smart thing to do so no one can see the scars (if they scar)(mine did). but if u get caught cutting cutting yourself u could do wat did and start burning yourself i did it with the wax out of a candle all i did was get a cottin tip put wax on it and wipe it along your skin i did it on my wrist and i wrote stuff like "die,A6 or his full name" just stuff like that.

Right, i'm insecure and don't speak a lot round people, My boyfriend is also emo, to be honest he's my closest friend too. But you lot can't exactly be a true emo if you have to google how to be emo. You guys obviously just want to be different. Im not going to lie, I wish I wasn't emo. I'm 15 and going through Exams in school. You lot need to think about the consequences. emo actually derived from the genre, which was emotional music. i dont believe people are actually emo. its just a label. if you dress a certain way (as described above) it does NOT make you emo. just be who you are. if you want to dress this way, then go ahead, but put your own flair on it. meaning you dont have to only wear black skinny jeans.

(Yes. My name is Wednesday). ALRIGHT. Now, emo is a very cool fashion statement and life style. I have absolutely nothing against it. At school, people always tease me and call me "emo girl" and "goth poser" and stuff like that. I really love being "emo" as you put it. I love the hair and makeup and clothing; it's all just so wonderful. What I hate is when I get picked on and when people hate me just because of my looks. I also hate when someone teases me and then says sorry like it's going to fix my emotional damage!

Also, um......I have to say that not ALL "emo"s cut, as others say. Sure some may cut, but I've seen many people that were not "emo" or even close to it that would cut because they were sad and depressed. Cheerleaders and preps, skaters and posers, jocks and goths, they may all cut. Cutting is a serious problem and should not just be subjected to people who are dark or are "emo."

I have cut myself for years now but only recently did I find out about emo. I always wear black and am quite depressed even if I do say so myself. I'm turning 12 tomorrow but I wish I was never born. The other day I made a pretty deep cut on the back of my hand. I stuck a staple through it as a joke and showed this guy. he almost threw up cause it was bleeding everywhere. I cut my wrists but dont have the guts to actually kill myself. if I could I would. I don't call myself emo but when I was 8 I was considering suicide. Now I find pins at night in an old shed and shove them thru my hand. Please reply if your reading this.

Emo is just a stereoptic word. It does not mean that you hve to ruin your life by Cutting and all that stuff. Dressing up in a "what you call emo way" is alright. You can listen to as much metal music as you want. But it dosent mean you have to reck your lives just to make yourself look cool.

I'm 16 and I dress up wearing black skinny jeans, t shirts with bands on etc.. But that doesn't make me an emo, it's just how I want to dress up and I don't care what people or my family say, they just have to live with it.

I consider myself emo. Although I don't look like one, I certainly am one. Society takes emo into a bad perspective. Embrace who you are and let people know that you're emo. But don't be too cheerful about it. It'll make you look retarded if you do. Thing is, bring emo is great, even though I stick with jeans, black T-shirt, and black hoodie.

Hey everyone! I wann be emo but when my mom found out I was emo she fussed abut it. I dont know about you guys but i have a reason to be emo, first of all in 2010 my sister killed herself she was only about 15 then in 2011 i watched my cat die under a table.

I'm kind of emo, I listen to the music, I wear the clothes, I dye my hair but I also cut...most people say cutting doesn't make you emo and it doesn't but it does help get rid of pain that your going through, I get classed as 'emo' because I'm mostly depressed alot now ever since my auntie killed herself I have been cutting and recently my best friends found out that I cut and I have caused some of them to do the same, not because they want to be like me but because they feel for me and are trying to understand what I'm going through, one of my friends stopped talking to me and now my parents found out I cut. I'm one step closer to going for help about my arms. I'm not worth living any more and I think people would be better of without me but I'm not going to kill myself, if anyone has any questions or wants to talk about their problems like this email me, I will be more than happy to help

I don't label myself as emo. I tend not to stick to labels. I don't cut myself, but I am a heavy thinker. I do not think it's "cool" to be how I am. I am simply this way. If some one judges you, tell them to stfu. They don't get how you are and don't know what you are going through. I used to be scared to death to change the way I was. But my parents accepted me for me and so did my TRUE friends. Be yourself and try not to stick to labels. But it's your life, it's your rules. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't be yourself. Express yourself in the best way you know how. :3

2nd thing is that this site is full of posers and wannabes. If you were emo, 1. you wouldn't be on this site, 2. you'd be keeping it to yourself, 3. you would not be saying things like: "Oh I cut myself because I'm so cool," or "I really wanna be emo but don't know how?" You can't become one. It's natural. And it's how you behave. Also you wouldn't be bragging about Self Harm, only attention whores do that.

SickOfPosers, and others who said something like his/hers, is right. It isn't something that you decide to be because you think it looks cool. Before I knew about emos I was already almost like one. I would wear black all the time, listen to that kind of music, was really shy, etc., but I didn't choose it because it looked cool. It is kind of funny reading all your comments saying how you're 10, 11, etc., cut yourself, and do all these other things. The best way to live is by being yourself. And, if you're naturally all these things then good for you. But who cares. Make friends, laugh, hang out, have fun! You don't always have to be a sad person who sits in the dark. Also, you shouldn't label yourself. It's not right. I mean, you shouldn't have to go out and be all "I'm emo," or "I like being emo." Its a way of life, so live the best life you can. And NO! You DON'T have go cut yourself? That is stupid! There are many things that are wrong on many websites. I just think it's fun/funny to see what people are saying... And please stop being posers. It's gross, and makes us worse than we are...
It's not just about wearing black, having a specific hair cut (not all haircuts are the same by the way), and listening to some specific type of music. It about the other parts too, like Being sensitive, quiet, shy, etc. Many emos like to write poetry, draw, or do something else that is personal ( or that expresses themselves). I love to draw, and was always good. Nobody thought anything of it. I would, and still do, wear black/dark colors. Sometimes something bright thought too. Not always restricting myself to... DARK. I have the EMO hair that people say it is, and wear whatever. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that you are mostly born with the emo personality... You can't obtain it.the people who dress like them are posers, and well, you can't tell a poser to stop being who they are either... So yeah. Just be who you are, or who makes you happy...

hey, you dont have to be depressed to an emo, yes of course some of them are but most of them are happy. There are no real rules to being emo all the things people genrally think of emo's are depressed, unhappy people who cut themselves, but these are just stereotypes people have gave emos over the years. So yes it is fine to be emo just because you want to be because its not like your going to be emo because dont want be is it.
